Cycling

Cycling is a great way to explore the region and spend great active holidays in the Alps. Merano/Meran and surroundings is the perfect place for this, offering a wide choice of nature trails and cycling routes such as easy rides through the fruit gardens, medium-difficulty forestry trails and demanding climbs up to some of the legendary Transalp Challenge’s most intimidating mountain passes, such as Passo Gelato/Eisjochl and Passo Madriccio/Madritschjoch. Cycling enthusiasts will be delighted by the curvy roads up to the 2,509-meter Passo del Rombo/Timmelsjoch, the breathtaking Passo di Stelvio/Stilfserjoch and the 1,512-meter Passo delle Palade/Gampenpass, all of which are part of some of the main stages of the Giro d‘Italia bicycle race. Thanks to the mild climate which offers more than 315 days of sun every year, Merano/Meran has a uniquely long cycling season, making it a great destination for active vacations in South Tyrol.
